Although there may not be as many proper names for men’s haircuts, men have been known to take a photo into their local barber and request The Gosling or The Tony Stark. Their styles have become more creative over the years and have elevated above the simple buzz cut or mullet. To inspire your new look, we’ve done some research to find the most famous men’s haircut names.
The Elvis
@crazy.about.elvis
We’re talking older Elvis but not yet Fat Elvis. The side-swept pompadour on the front, long sides, and the heavy sideburns framing the face are a signature look for all impersonators of The King. Just make sure you can swivel those hips and curl that upper lip to complete the look.
The Beatles
@beatles.4ever
The Beatles were known for their wicked harmonizing, screaming girls, and signature haircuts. Their cuts were referred to as “mop-tops,” the longish style and bangs seemed to resemble a certain housekeeping tool. Fans called their styles “Arthur.”
@kianahayeri
The straight cut was collar length in back, went over the ears and ended with a fringe bang over the forehead. This cut was emulated by fans all over the world in the mid-sixties.
The Kid n’ Play
@kidnplayfanpage
This sky-high cut is known as the “high-top fade.” The hair on the sides and back is either kept very short or shaved off completely.
Then the top of the head is kept very long. Some got really creative with their haircuts and shaved designs or messages onto the sides of their heads.
The David Beckham
@davidbeckham
Since he’s no longer running around and scoring goals for any of the seven soccer teams he played for, Beckham has let his hair grow out and we are all the better for it. The sides have been trimmed short into an undercut and the top is almost a full quiff. Naturally, this look has already begun to inspire men the world over to let their hair grow.
The Keanu Reeves
@keanureevesloving
Keanu Reeves’ look has not changed much over the years, which may explain how he doesn’t look as if he’s aged at all. When he’s not filming, his hair is back to his preferred medium-length, messy style.
But when he can, he’ll work it into the character’s style – ahem, John Wick. He probably just runs some pomade or gel through it and walks out the door
The Thor aka Chris Hemsworth
There are certain haircuts, for men and women, that instantly cause a major case of hair envy. Chris Hemsworth’s blonde surfer locks when he’s portraying the God of Thunder, Thor, is one of those looks. Down to just about his shoulders and cut into long layers this look has become synonymous with the Avenger.
The Tony Stark aka Iron Man
@rdj.stanth
Some actors become indistinguishable from their famous characters. Robert Downey Jr. has become synonymous with Tony Stark. He is Iron Man. That haircut and goatee are part of his persona. After the first Iron Man movie, barbers often had clients requesting the Tony Stark haircut and goatee combo. It really is one of the most famous men’s haircuts names.
The Superman aka Henry Cavill
Another superhero, another famous haircut for men. Henry Cavill’s traditional style channels both Clark Kent and Superman, down to the curl that always seems to fall onto his forehead. The sides are kept short and blended into the slightly longer top, then brushed back with a product for a polished finish. We can see why this famous men’s haircut is so popular.
The Justin
@justinpjtrudeau
Curls, curls and more curls. This haircut is perfect for those tousled curly locks. The Canadian Prime Minister makes this shoulder-length style look effortless.
There are layers cut throughout the thick and wavy hair then the ends are texturized. Since his hair is already curly, he is just working with his natural wave and texture. Not everyone can have Justin Trudeau’s movie star hair, but they can try.
The Edward Cullen
@official_edwardcullen
Right after Twilight first hit the theaters, girls of all ages were dazzled by Robert Pattinson’s coppery strands. Men, on the other hand, hoping to cash in on some of that Twilight fever were asking for Edward’s messy bedhead look. Keep your sides shorts guys and let the tops grow out then get familiar with a round brush, hairdryer and product.
The Dean Winchester
Jensen Ackles is one of those guys who keeps his hair short and simple. And you know what? It works for him. He does switch from the short, swept to the side look to a more edgy, spikey look from time to time. This haircut is perfect for those that don’t want to spend a lot of time on their hair.
The Soccer Superstar aka The Cristiano
Although he is a serious professional athlete, Cristiano Ronaldo’s style is more suited to the fashion runways. His hair is ever-changing, but this upswept style with spikes and short sides seems to be his go-to. It’s also the go-to for men everywhere looking to emulate the soccer heartthrob.
The Donald
We never said this was a list of only good famous haircuts. When discussing the most famous men haircut names, we’d be remiss if we didn’t at least mention The Donald. We’re not sure what to call this yellow comb-over to end all comb-overs, but whatever it is we can guarantee you won’t hear many requests for it at the barber.
The Damon Salvatore
So let’s face it, who wouldn’t want to look like a hot 200-year old vampire? Ian’s hair is short on the sides, long on top and falls just below his hairline in back to come up to a slight curl on his neck. It’s a very versatile look for someone who has to frequently time travel on his show and still fit in.
Will Smith
@nspectaculos
Will Smith’s cool and confident style is one most men gravitate towards and imitate whenever possible. They may not try on his Fresh Prince of Bel-Air neons, but Will’s modern style has come a long way. He keeps his curly and coarse hair cut short and neat. No muss, no fuss. And it looks good on him.
The Bieber
When Justin Bieber first came onto the scene, people couldn’t get over his hair. That combed forward, long hair that seemed to pop-up on every teenage boy at the time. No matter how much we wanted it to go away, it stayed. And grew. And grew. Soon, The Bieber was everywhere. Thankfully, those kids have all grown up and realized how dumb they looked and the Bieber was no more.
The Captain America
Yet another of Marvel’s superheroes has become enmeshed with the actor who portrays him. Of course we’re talking about Steve Rogers, the actor who – we mean, Chris Evans, the actor who plays Steve Rogers. His clean-cut pushed back haircut is one that we would love to see more of. Short on the sides and about medium-length on top gives this haircut its All-American appeal.
The Momoa
Looking at Jason Momoa, we can’t help but see two of his famous characters – and one of those hasn’t even appeared onscreen yet! The hair of Khal Drogo, aka Aquaman, is wild and free, like its actor. Most men wish they could pull off those long, dark locks but don’t know how. Let your hair grow free, our friend. Let it grow free.
The Gibbs
Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs, played by Mark Harmon, is known for his rules. And his Marine Corps haircut. High and tight. It’s always been short all the way around but recently, NCIS fans saw a few changes, including his hair getting just a little bit longer and we like it.
The Goode
Matthew Goode’s haircut is so classic that it’s been around for millennia. It’s known as The Caesar and Goode seems to favor it quite a bit. Basically, it’s kept short all the way around then the top is pushed forward. That’s it. It’s so easy to deal with that it is very popular and requested quite often by those that want to just wash and go.
The Wolverine
This famous men’s haircut is so famous, we could show you a silhouette and you would probably be able to name the actor, all the movies he’s appeared in, and everything else about the franchise. One of the main things to remember when requesting this haircut is that it’s got thick sideburns and a ducktail back. The two peaks on either side of the head are optional.
The Dumb and Dumber
Here’s yet another famous haircut that we don’t recommend you go out and try. For obvious reasons. Lloyd’s hair is not something barbers get a lot of requests for. But it you do want it, it’s actually pretty simple. Just put a bowl over your head and cut whatever is sticking out. It’s so easy, Jim Carrey gave it to fans on Hollywood Blvd during an episode of Jimmy Kimmel.
The Gos
Warning, this haircut is so popular, you may find yourself fighting off swarms of Gos’ fans. The Gos is, without a doubt, one of the most famous men’s haircut names. It’s actually a blend of two different haircuts, an Ivy League and a gentleman’s cut. Just remember not to go too short, because not even Ryan Gosling can help your hair grow back then.
The Star Lord
Star Lord’s hair is something of mystery. It actually looks like it’s a grown out style and is never completely perfect. Which is a good thing, right? It’s low-maintenance, textured and is actually just a longer version of the cut used as the base for The Gos. Run some product through and you’re ready. Now where’s our mix-tape?
The 007
Daniel Craig’s style says he’s ready for anything and for James Bond, that’s the difference between life and death. Bond keeps his hair short all over and slightly spikey on top. Although it doesn’t seem to be as full as it was in his younger years, that doesn’t seem to be bothering him in the least. This is definitely one of the most popular Bond styles we’ve seen.
The Silver Fox
This longer version of George Clooney’s hair is one of our favorites. It’s called a contour and is actually a longer variation on that style. It’s a classic and is slowly re-gaining its popularity among men of all ages. It does require a little more work in the styling and maintenance but one look at the finished product and you’ll know it was all worth it.
The Tom Hardy
Tom Hardy’s short haircut is perfect for the hot summer weather that will soon be upon us. Short and faded on the sides, the top is just slightly longer and swept up in a bit of an edgy, spikey style We’re not sure Bane would approve but all of his fans sure do.
The Pine
Captain Kirk’s hair is a thing of legend. The long length up top is swept up and slicked back while his sideburns and beard blend seamlessly. Do we really need to say anything more than that?
The SEAL
Commander Steve McGarrett’s so convincing on Hawaii 5-0, that it’s hard to believe that Alex O’Laughlin is not actually a Navy SEAL. This short, military approved haircut keeps his image intact and his fans immersed in the show.
